Startup School 09
We arrived friday night in SF and the day after, saturday around noon we saw on Twitter that it was the day of the startup school! @biberli and I decided to go at Berkeley to have a look even without registration. We got lost many times but nonetheless it was fun to see all the Berkeley students partying outside (it was football day). We finally found the Wheeler Auditorium! We entered the hall and the first group of people we saw was discussing around Mark Zuckerberg. That's part of the magic of the area everyone seems accessible! Inside the auditorium Tony Hsieh was finishing his presentation on sustaining happiness. Then came Mark Pincus presentation ... without slides ;-) He talked about wanting to be a great entrepreneur is not enough, we should want to be great CEOs. A great entrepreneur can manage 10 people but when you want to build a great company it's going to be 100 or 1000 employees, and for that you need to be a great CEO. He also talked about the most important thing: making the product work! As an example he explained how he went to Facebook with his team 2 days ago to solve the problems with the latest news feed change instead of going in Boston for a presentation. That make me think that it is another good reason to be in the Bay Area.
